Just a quickie.

My life is pretty insane right now and I don't even really have time to DO my nails, let alone blog properly about it. So I just thought I'd leave you all with a pic of my most recent manicure. Blog soon!

Rainbow Honey Pinkie Promise

Okay guys so tonight I tried out Rainbow Honey's Pinkie Promise for the first time. It is super adorable in the bottle and I was really excited to try it out, but sadly I picked a not so flattering base for it. I'm not super pleased with the overall outcome but the polish itself is lovely.

Pinkie Promise is a fun and shimmery pink base filled with hex
and tinsel glitter in magenta, light blue, and gold - this polish calls for a party!

Japanese Rose Garden, Pink Flamenco, Manicurist of Seville

Okay so again I wanted to try it over more then one colour. My biggest problem was choosing Manicurist of Seville as the dominant base. I love this colour, I've posted it before when I tried my french tips. It turned out a lot pinker in that lighting, here it was more purple. But it was far too dark to look good under Pinkie Promise in my opinion.

Pinkie Promise was another one that was a bit of a glitter explosion and I had some difficulty finding a happy medium between too many shapes and too little. I even dabbed so hard on my left hand middle finger that I smudged the polish underneath, although I don't think you can see it.

I completely think having the lighter pinks under Pinkie Promise was a much nicer choice. I think it is such a playful polish it was definitely best geared toward a brighter happier colour. Although I give it an A+ for awesomness I'm probably not keeping this manicure on even over night.

OPI Pamplona Purple

Okay guys. So this is one of the first 'fancy' nail polish I EVER bought myself. Probably at least 3 or 4 years ago now I bought it. It's called Pamplona Purple and it's by OPI of course.

The polish is a gorgeous cream purple, nothing fancy no glitter or shimmer or anything like that. I find it definitely applies a little bit darker then it appears in the bottle. That could be because I generally use 3 coats (even though it could be completely fine in 2 if applied well). The application is very very smooth and you can easily choose to do very thin layers or more gloopy ones. Any flaws in the pictures you see are my fault, my dog was pestering me to go outside half way through my polish application of course so it all got done in a rush.

Evidently I need to improve my bottle shot skills.

Apologies for the gigantic chunk missing out of my thumb, qtip slipped during my clean up.

I was wondering why I was sooo drawn to Sally Hansen's 230 Plum Power polish. I mean I'm always a huge fan of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear, their brush is my FAVOURITE, but I just couldn't let this colour go. It is almost identical to Pamplona Purple, but it has SHIMMER!!!! I did two accent nails in the below pic, can you tell the difference? It's damned hard.

Rainbow Honey Hoof Wrassle

Ooookay guys. So after posting my last blog about Mare of the Moon I realized the Rainbow Honey descriptions for their polishes are spot on. So I'm gonna include their words to describe Roof Hassle.

'A shimmery copper orange base studded with gold, copper
and orange hex and square glitter, and a sprinkling of
iridescent and holographic glitters - this polish loves to sparkle in the sun.'

I'm not going to lie, I used this polish tonight because out of the 8 polishes in the Equestria collection, this was my least favourite in the bottle and I wanted to get it out of the way. I'm not really an orange person.. Actually I don't think I own a single orange nail polish. Anyways, I'm actually pretty fond of how this turned out. I still don't think it'll be a go to glitter for me, but I'm not taking it off as we speak either. I was hoping to get a really nice fall theme going on to match the beautiful scenery before Vancouver turns cold and grey for the winter.

The colours I used for my base coats are Glitzerland (the gold) and I'm not really a waitress (the red - I swear it's mostly red but it does often look more pink, especially in my house lighting).

Sorry about the awful mess, I totally forgot to take a picture of my left hand (I'm right handed so it's usually not as messy) before I put on the glitters!
Okay, so I didn't have anywhere near the problems applying Hoof Wrassle as I did with Mare of the Moon. The glitter chunks were super super accesible, there were almost too many of them! They all laid super flat though, which was awesome, and even though there is a lot of glitters it doesn't seem too overwhelming. It definitely did change the colour of my base colour again, but this time I expected it and planned for it. I guess it always helps to read the polish description before diving full speed into it.

I think it turned out really nicely. I'm definitely getting better at this glitter thing, who knows in 6 more polishes I may even be able to call myself a glitter pro haha. I definitely got the fall feel I was looking for. It also kind of reminds me of fire.

I got a cow onesie today and I just had to share it, I am so in love <3

Mare Of The Moon

Okay first of all OH MY GOD. Rainbow Honey glitters really are as gorgeous in real life as they are on blogs!!!!! I just got the Equestria minis set in the mail today and I couldn't wait to try one. And I couldn't wait to share.. Literally. My nails are still slightly wet as I type.

Alrighty. So to test out this beautiful polish I wanted to try it over more then one colour base, but I also (obviously) wasn't feeling insanely adventurous so I kept all the colours quite similar.I wouldn't go as far as saying they all fall into the same family, but definitely close. I used OPI Purple with a Purpose (thumb), Suzi Says Feng Shui (ring finger) and Into the Night (everywhere else). Quite a pretty combo even on their own I think.

Now this is my first time dabbling with a real complicated sparkle polish. I've tended to only really use shimmers in the past and they aren't quite so hard to use. I was actually texting my friend Sharra from over at The Blahg the whole time I did my nails trying to figure out the best way to get the big glitter chunks out.

I did this hand first, notice that I have quite a few moons but the coats are so thick you can barely see the base coats?
This hand I tried dabbing the glitter on at Sharra's suggestion. Definitely not as many of the bigger pieces but I was happy to see my carefully selected base colours showing through better.
I feel like there has to be a way for me to be able to get both the big glitters and the showing of the base coat, I just haven't figured it out yet. Suggestions welcome. All in all though I have never been more in awe of a polish. In case you can't see, its a very beautiful purpley blue shimmer with silver glitter chunks and silver moons throughout it. I tried to get some better pics in better lighting of both hands so you can really see the difference between having a lot of it on and less. Apologies for the lack of cleanup, like I said I was so excited to show you guys I think my nails are probably only JUST dry now.

First French Attempt

Okay guys, so I wasn't really sure if I was even going to post this one cuz it's a pretty pathetic final product. But the colours themselves are gorgeous and I thought they at least deserved to be shared.

This is my first attempt at doing anything that remotely has a french tip. I didn't try to use any fancy techniques or anything, just free handed it with a smaller paint brush. That wasn't where my biggest problem came from. My biggest problem was actually my impatience. I didn't consider that because I'd be applying a DIFFERENT colour over my polish for the french tips that they may mix.. Oops!!!!

I used two colours for this mani. Both OPI. The yellow is called ' The It Colour' and the pink is called 'Manicurist of Seville'. I'll post seperate swatch posts to discuss the actual polish later.

See what I mean about the two colours getting mixed?
The left hand wasn't so bad.

To be completely honest, I probably will wear this manicure until it gets all chippy because I really really like the colours so that's part of why I'm posting this even though it isn't the greatest. Maybe I'll try french tips again sometime soon and use a better technique.. I've heard the circular bandaids work great!

Doggy haircut!

My little man got a hair cut!!

Eradicate H8

Just a quickie to show my support. As a brand spankin new blogger I definitely support this movement. Just as I was debating starting a nail blog it feels like the whole community blew up a little bit and it made me a little bit weary of joining. I'm not just new to blogging but also pretty new to nail art in general, so of course I am pretty shy of sharing my work. I know my manicures wont be the best yet, and my clean up is sometimes iffy but it has been incredibly reassuring to see the support of the community towards letting us newbies learn and grow.
My purple manicure is Purple with a Purpose by OPI and the accent nail is Do You Lilac It also by OPI. I thought it was kind of dull on its own so I threw in some polka dots. Really simply and I think it's pretty cute.

'Bullying is not funny. It is not cool. It is not right. And more importantly, it is not okay.
Most of us are, thankfully, residents of countries that support tolerance and many of our families have settled in these places simply for that reason. Generations later, it is our responsibility to perpetuate that message of tolerance across our new social platforms, including the internet.

As members of the nail polish blogging community, we all share a love of beauty, color, and lacquer. Other than that, we are remarkably different: from our race to our religion to our hair color...even to our polish application techniques. To marginalize anyone because of those differences is completely unacceptable and today I take a stand against that. I refuse to allow other people's view of "normal" dictate how I behave, believe, and blog.

In solidarity with a multitude of bloggers linked below, my purple manicure represents my proud commitment to the No H8 movement. Today, November 8, I dedicate my post to ending bullying of any kind and to encouraging diversity and imperfection among our colorful community.'

Cutesy toes

Okay guys, here we go. I'm gonna try my first ACTUAL nail related post.

Now I almost feel like I'm cheating posting this one, because I didn't actually do the painting myself.. My boyfriend did. I had just gotten out of the hospital and he wanted to do something to make me smile. Also, I'm gonna post pictures of my toes.. Which is obviously not as aesthetically pleasing as a hand, but this really is kinda cute.

The red colour is Essie's 'Forever Yummy'. I adore it. Good consistency in the formula, it is an incredibly smooth application. The picture is literally one coat with no clean up, so that alone tells you how great it is. The colour itself is a very very classic bright red carpet colour red. Very glam, very pretty.

The little heart on my big toe was done using Quo by ORLY's Instant Artist in BLACK. I have two of these and I really like concept of them, but they can be super hard to use. I find that a lot of polish will gloop down the brush all at once unless you're extremely careful.

Anyways guys, I think that's about all I can really think of to say about this one, let me know how I did.
Immediately after being done.
About a week later now.. Crazy staying power. Does anyone else find their toe polish barely ever chips?

Hello blogosphere!

Hello fellow bloggers and blog readers!

Since this is my first post I'm gonna touch more on the 'stuff' then the 'nails' for this one.

A bit about me. My name is Kaila, obviously. I'm 22 years old and I live in Vancouver Canada. Like most women, I've kind of ALWAYS painted my nails but only just recently gotten into nail design and art (I'm still VERY new, so be nice :P)

I'm hoping to keep this blog to nail art, polish swatches and the occasional makeup product review but I know myself well enough to warn you I'll probably bombard you with pictures of my dog as well heehee.

Anywhooo I suppose that's really all you neeeeed to know. If you have any questions pop me a comment!
